Manually operated machines made easy

Digital readouts for manually operated machine tools increase productivity. They also save time, increase part dimensional accuracy, and boost convenience. In conjunction with linear encoders for machine tools, digital readouts measure axis motion directly, bypassing the effects of transmission components such as the lead screws, gear racks, or gear systems.

    Tool and workpiece measurement

    Touch probes and camera systems help reduce setup times, increase machine utilization, and improve the dimensional accuracy of finished workpieces. Setup, measurement, and monitoring tasks can be performed manually or, in conjunction with most CNC controls, be executed by the program. You benefit from high probing reproducibility, high probing speeds, and wear-free measurements.

    Fine manual axis control

    Electronic handwheels from HEIDENHAIN give you delicate control of the feed motors to move the axis slides. Axis keys and certain function keys are built into the handwheel housing. Portable handwheels let you switch between axes or set up the machine regardless of where you happen to be. Panel-mounted handwheels can be attached to any location on the machine.

    A copy of the control in your office

    Away from the noisy shop floor, a programming station lets you create, test, and optimize NC programs in the office just as you would at the machine. Program verification and keyboard layout are the same as on the control. These characteristics also make the programming station ideal for vocational training. And with a Digital Twin, you can leverage an exact model of your machine, including its actual kinematics, parameters, and functions.

    Products for the spindle

    Sealed linear encoders

    The LC and LS sealed linear encoder series from HEIDENHAIN are ideal for precise spindle positioning. Their slimline scale housing permits optimal integration into the machine. For larger installation spaces, HEIDENHAIN also offers encoders with a full-size scale housing.

    Modular magnetic encoders

    The ERM modular angle encoders with magnetic scanning are available with either the TTR ERM 2x04 or the TTR ERM 2x05 scale drum for spindle applications. These drums are available with different graduation periods based on the required speed and accuracy of the given machine tool.

    Asynchronous motors

    For its controls and drives, HEIDENHAIN also provides main spindle motors. The QAN asynchronous motors feature maintenance-free bearings. They can also absorb strong lateral forces and permit high spindle speeds, which are measured by an integrated HEIDENHAIN rotary encoder.

    Products for the table

    Absolute angle encoders

    The RCN optical angle encoders from HEIDENHAIN, featuring an integral bearing and stator coupling, are designed specifically for machine tool applications. Because the encoder has its own integrated bearing, machine component bearings have no effect on the measuring accuracy. The new RCN generation offers even more improved performance and process reliability.  

    Available as an alternative are the absolute inductive angle encoders from AMO, with a measuring flange or scale ring, offering particularly flexible position measurement solutions for a rotary table.

    Sealed linear encoders

    The LC and LS sealed linear encoder series from HEIDENHAIN are the go-to encoders for precise machine table positioning in a closed loop control system. Using linear encoders eliminates thermal error, the main cause of position error in modern machine tools.

      Synchronous motors

      HEIDENHAIN also supplies motors for feed drives of controls and inverters. The QSY synchronous motors feature excellent running smoothness, a very good ratio of the rated torque to the stall torque, and a low torque ripple. HEIDENHAIN synchronous motors operate with sinusoidal commutation. An integrated rotary encoder from HEIDENHAIN measures the rotor position and shaft speed. 

      ETEL offers numerous variants of linear and torque motors for specialized applications.
